Dr Tim Jenkinson was appointed as a Consultant in Rheumatology and Sports and Exercise Medicine to the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath in 1995.
Dr Jenkinson is the Senior Medical Adviser to the Football Association and Medical Officer to Bristol Rovers Football Club.
His main areas of interest in rheumatology include the clinical assessment, investigation and management of inflammatory arthritis. This includes diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and seronegative arthritis.
Dr Jenkinson has extensive experience in Sports and Exercise Medicine and has a particular interest in the investigation and management of soft tissue-related musculoskeletal injuries.
Dr Jenkinson is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath. He was previously the Director of Studies to the MSc programme in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath and held an appointment as a Specialist in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the English Institute of Sport.
Dr Jenkinson is actively involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students and post-graduate trainees in Rheumatology and Sports and Exercise Medicine. He is an examiner for the membership of the Royal College of Physicians and for the MSc Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine. His research interests include exercise and arthritis. Dr Jenkinson is currently leading a research programme assessing the prevalence of osteoarthritis in professional footballers. This research is supported by the Professional Footballers' Association.
